Arbuckle Wildlife Management area (WMA) covers 13,530 acres with many nature opportunities and recreational activities.

It is a perfect place to enjoy the scenery and see what Polk County has to offer. Dogs are also allowed with certain limitations.

This site is part of the Lake Wales Ridge State Forest, and was purchased to protect many endangered plants and animals. The WMA is known to be a Great Florida Birding Trail site, short tailed hawks, bald eagles, limpkins and ospreys are just a few of many birds that are often seen.

There is a high ridge of ancient sand dunes that have fast disappearing pine and oak scrub, they are habitats that are normally home Florida scrub jays and gopher tortoises.

The recreational activities that are allowed are camping and horseback riding. Camping is permitted at the designated sites. There is a fee required for all of the campsites. There are hunting campsites that do not require a reservation. For hunting information there is a FWC brochure at the campground entrance.

Most of the year horseback riding is allowed on certain roads, there is brochure that has information for the different trails. Due to Florida law any child under the age of 16 is required to wear a helmet while horseback riding. The horses must also have a current negative Coggins test result.
