What was once a courthouse in 1908 has been converted into an educational history center with a museum and library. Housed within Polk County History Museum are Pre-Columbian to present-day era artifacts. Included in these displayed artifacts are fossils, Native American dugout canoe, clothing, fishing lures, horse-drawn buggy, military relics, and much more. Guest are welcomed to visit the history center and look back in time to where it all began and the evolution made to get where we are today. The exhibits in Polk County History Center are continuously rotating.
Self-guided tours are available as are educational programs or group tours. Educational programs such as Story Seekers, a tour for fourth graders, or Journey in Justice, a tour for middle school children, are a great experience for children to learn about history. Other education programs offered by the Polk County History Center include Oak Hill Cemetery Tour and the Polk Heritage Classroom.
