The Nature Conservancy's Tiger Creek Preserve
This is a great place for a field trip. The Nature Conservancy’s Tiger Creek Preserve has many animals and plants that are on the endangered list or so rare that they’re only found in this region.

While visiting, you may spot an American Kestrel or Gopher Tortoise among other birds and animals. The park also has an interesting landscape, you will find scrubby flatwoods, pine flatwoods, sandhill and longleaf pine/wiregrass habitat at this preserve.

The park has six hiking trails ranging from 0.5 miles to 7.0 miles. There are trails to suit any kind of hiker from easy to difficult; the trails take you over brides and into grassy highlands and over to some shallow ponds.

Only foot travel is permitted, and you are asked to stay on marked trails. To protect the preserve’s rare plants and animals, the following are not allowed: pets, smoking, littering, camping, collecting, firearms, fires, hunting and radios. Visitors should bring drinking water. Please—leave dogs at home.
